Schott Wein
The Schott winery is located in Wallhausen in the heart of the “Nahe” wine region. The area is well known for it´s wide range of soil formations and it´s temperate micro climate. The up to 50 year old vines grow on volcanic green slate, red slate, phyllite, and produce wines with strong character and high minerality.
Winemaking is in the family's blood. In 1959, Friedrich Edwin and Liesel Schott filled the first bottle of wine, thus laying the foundation for the winery by planting mainly burgundy vines. Even back then, the work was progressive, relying on manual work paired with modern technology. Many awards followed for the quality of the wines.
Today, the third-generation family company is run by the two brothers Michel and Benny Schott. Around 25 hectares of vineyards are cultivated in and around Wallhausen. Both completed their training in renowned wineries throughout Germany and then became winemaking technicians. Half a year of winemaking in New Zealand brought about a love of Sauvignon Blanc. The main focus, however, is still on Burgundy varieties, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder, most of them fermented and matured in French oak barrels. Over time, red wine has become increasingly important. The winery has made a name for it´s red Barrique Cuvees and Pinot Noir, which have been awarded national prizes by Meininger's Red Wine Prize, Vinum, Falstaff and as a wine at the Berlinale.
